Judith van Wanroij

Judith van Wanroij started her vocal studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Margareet Honig. In 2004 she obtained the Certificate of Advanced Opera Programme at the Universities of Amsterdam and The Hague and won first prize in the prestigious Erna Spoorenberg Vocalisten Presentatie competition. She has appeared in numerous oratorio concerts in Europe with Frans Brüggen, Edo de Waart, William Christie, Kenneth Weiss, Jesus Lopez Cobos, René Jacobs, Emmanuel Krivine, Christophe Rousset, Hervé Niquet, Jaap van Zweden, Skip Sempé and Marc Minkowski, among others.

This season and in the coming seasons, she will be heard in the following works. Operas. Concert performances : Zirphile (Achante et Céphise, Rameau) with Les Ambassadeurs, the main role (La Princesse Jaune, Saint-Saëns) with the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse (recording), Didon (Desmarest) with Le Concert Spirituel, Ilia (Idomeneo) and First Lady with Les Talens Lyriques in Würzburg and Gstaad, Swanhilde in Hulda (C. Franck) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the leading role (Iphigenia in Aulis) at the Champs-Elysées Theatre, Telaïre (Castor and Pollux) in Budapest...

In the 2019-2020 season. McGegan (cancelled due to the epidemic); DRUSILLA (L'Incoronazione di Poppea) at the Champs-Elysées (cancelled due to the epidemic); FIRST FLUTE (Magic Flute) at the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam; Phaedra versions at the Opera Limoges and the Arsenal de Metz; Phaedra (J. B. Lemoyne) principal role in Budapest; Les voyages de l'Amour (Boismortier) in Budapest and Herne; solo recital (R. Also recently, XAIMA in Le Tribut de Zamora (Gounod) with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, starring in Semiramis (Destouches) at the Ambronay Festival with Les Ombres, Issé (Destouches) with Les Surprises at the Versailles Opera, Tarare (Salieri) with Les Talens Lyriques at the Theater an der Wien, Versailles and the Philharmonie de Paris, Jephté (Monteclair) with the Orfeo Orchestra in Budapest, Leçons de Ténèbres (Couperin) in Florence, Gdansk and Lourdes with Les Talens Lyriques. .. FIRST LEVEL in The Magic Flute at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence, the title role of Phaedra (Lemoyne) on tour (Caen, Reims, Toulouse... ) and at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, her debut as CONTESSA (The Marriage of Figaro) at the Royal Opera of Wallonia in Liège, EURYDICE in Orpheus and Eurydice (Gluck) at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. More recently, she sang the title role in ORFEO (Rossi) at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, the Opéra Royal de Versailles, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and the Opéra de Caen, directed by Raphael Pichon, ILIA at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, DONNA ELVIRA in Essen.

Other recent stage appearances include: DONNA ELVIRA in Don Giovanni and ILIA in Idomeneo at the DNO in Amsterdam, ILIA in Caen and Luxembourg, BELINDA in Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra Comique, EMILIE and ATALIDE in Les Indes Galantes at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and Bordeaux, ILIA in Essen, or even La Gloire, Phenice or Melisse in Lully's opera Armide at the Opéra de Nancy.

Judith van Wanroij made her opera debut singing the title role in Offenbach's La Périchole and went on to sing roles such as MUSETTA in La Bohème, THE DENEVER in Ravel's The Child and the Magic, CRISIDE in Maderna's Satyricon, PAPAGENA in The Magic Flute, KAROLINA in Smetana's Dvê Vdovy, DRUSILLA and VIRTU in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the Opéra de Lyon, JULIA in Künneke's Der Vetter aus Dingsda at De Nieuwe Nederlandse Operette, BELINDA in Dido and Aeneas at the Wiener Festwochen and the Aix-en-Provence Festival, ECHO in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Teatro Real in Madrid, MENICA in La Madrileña o el Tutor Burlado by Martín y Soler and Les Talens Lyriques (Christophe Rousset), ROSSWEISSE in Die Walküre at the Vlaamse Oper (Antwerp and Ghent), THISBE in the title role of Rebel and Francoeur in Pirame et Thisbé at the Angers-Nantes Opera, or singer of Monteverdi's Madrigals at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. At the Nederlandse Opera she sang EURIDICE in Orfeo, VALETTO in L'Incoronazione di Poppea and INGRATA in Il Ballo dell'Ingrate, as well as Cléone/Suivante d'Hébé/Une Ombre in Rameau's Castor and Pollux. At the Teatro Real in Madrid, she sang PSYCHE in Krenek's opera Orfeo and Eurydice.

In the following seasons, she sang DESPINA in Cosi fan Tutte at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, SERVILIA in La Clemenza di Tito at the Opéra de Lyon, BELINDA at the Opéra Comique in Paris, and in Vienna and Amsterdam with William Christie. She sang VIRTU/DAMIGELLA in L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and ILIA in Idomeneo at the Opéra de Nancy. She has sung JUNON in Platée at the Opéra du Rhin (Strasbourg), SIDONIE and LICINDE in Gluck's Armide at Opera Lafayette, at Lincoln Center in New York and in Washington, D.C, DON CHISCIOTTE at the Sera Morena (Conti) in Amsterdam and La Monnaie in Brussels, directed by René Jacobs, DESPINA at the Opéra du Luxembourg, sang in the women's chorus of the opera The Abomination of Lucretia at the Opéra Angers-Nantes.

At the same time, she has given numerous concerts in Europe's most prestigious venues: Purcell's Odes to St Cecilia in Innsbruck, Utrecht and Antwerp with B'Rock; King Arthur with Les Talens Lyriques, Mozart's Requiem at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg; Belinda in Dido and Aeneas at the Champs Elysées, the title role in Gretry's Andromache at the Schwetzingen Festival and in Montpellier with Hervé Niquet; Steffani's Stabat Mater at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with Andrea Marcon; Mozart with the Orchestre de Picardie, The Golden Fleece (Vogel) with Hervé Niquet at the Opera Nüremberg; Amadis (Lully) in Beaune; Hyypermnestra in Les Danaïdes (Salieri) at the Theater an der Wien, the Théâtre Royal de Versailles and the Arsenal de Metz; Emilie and Atalide at Les Indes Galantes in Bruges and at the Barbican in London, then Leçon de Ténèbres (Couperin) in Vienna, the Wigmore Hall in London, in Essen with the Talens Lyriques; Telaïre - Rameau Castor and Pollux with the Pygmalion (conductor : R. Pichon) at Besançon, Opéra Comique, Bordeaux. Le Temple de la Gloire (Rameau) (conductor: Guy van Waas), in Liège and Versailles, CPE Bach's Magnificat with the Insula orchestra (conductor: L.
