If tickets are purchased for four different events of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition, the buyer receives a 30% discount; the discount is deducted from the total price of the tickets.

Four. That is all who remain for the final round, in which Liszt’s Sonata in B minor will be performed—one of the most monumental and technically demanding works in the piano repertoire. Cast in a single movement, the sonata is extraordinarily complex in structure. It therefore requires not only exceptional technical command from the performer, but also a strong sense of form and a carefully shaped musical architecture. Rapid passagework, octave runs, dense chords and wide leaps alternate throughout the piece, demanding considerable physical stamina and absolute technical control.
At the same time, the work calls for remarkable interpretative depth. Its powerful dramatic contrasts and lyrical passages mean that, alongside virtuosity, pianists must also possess the ability to shape the music with sensitivity, insight and purpose. Some even regard the sonata as a kind of autobiographical monologue, in which the various themes act almost like characters, taking on ever new identities as the work unfolds.
But who can truly tell a story without words? At this stage, there is nowhere to hide behind melodies, conventions or technique: personality itself must make an impact. This is the work that reveals who can stand out even among the very best.
Before the concert, from 4:30 PM, there will be an opportunity to watch Dénes Nagy’s film Kurtág Fragments, which offers an insight into the unique artistic world of György Kurtág, one of the most significant figures in contemporary music.
