The light of candles creates an incomparable, intimate atmosphere inside the Benedictine Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola on the occasion of the Night of the Organs, while the music of Bach and Veracini fills the human soul with a sense of timeless sacred peace.
A sense of transcendent monumentality resounds in the dramatic opening chords of Johann Sebastian Bach’s D minor Toccata and Fugue. The Largo movement from Veracini’s Violin Sonata in A major gently leads the listener into a meditative mood, while the Improvisation series on the O Antiphons invites deep reflection with surprising musical moments. Bach then takes us by the hand once again: his Violin Sonata in E minor stirs our emotions through the alternation of dramatic and lyrical passages, while the Agnus Dei from the Mass in B minor soothes the soul with its intimacy. The unfolding melody of Gounod’s Ave Maria sends the listener on their way with reverent and deeply moving beauty.
With his inspired and colorful playing, Barnabás Hegyi invites the audience into a state of contemplation, joined by his musical partner Dóra Maros, whose delicate violin becomes a worthy counterpart to the powerful sound of the organ in a dialogue written in musical tones. 🎶
