Danubia and Máté Hámori’s latest production takes us back to a forgotten golden age: the heyday of Hungarian filmmaking. The films made during this extraordinary period, produced at an astonishing pace and to remarkable standards, shared one outstanding feature: their often sensational music. Spanning the 1930s to the late 1960s, this selection brings together the very best of Hungarian film music, performed by a symphony orchestra in all its concert-hall splendour.
The music brings to life the romance, elegance and humour captured on screen. The rich orchestral arrangements give familiar melodies fresh colours and renewed vitality, while conductor Máté Hámori’s stories add an extra dimension to the music, promising an evening of first-class entertainment.
The programme features such unforgettable classics as the title song Meseautó (Dream Car), Halálos tavasz (Deadly Spring), Hamvadó cigarettavég (Smouldering Cigarette End), 2 × 2 néha 5 (Two Times Two Sometimes Makes Five), Kicsit szomorkás a hangulatom máma (I’m Feeling a Little Melancholy Today), Csinibaba and Egy boldog nyár Budapesten (A Happy Summer in Budapest).
