During the singing masterclass, participants will have the opportunity to work with both professors.
Under the guidance of Katalin Szutrély, during the course you can deepen your knowledge in the following areas:
What is the true essence of Early Music? To understand the musical style of a particular era, I believe the importance of period-appropriate phrasing and the use of authentic instruments are crucial. For me, the German Lied repertoire is one of the most beloved field in European music history. The unity of poetry and music, and the intimacy of singing shared among the singer, the pianist, and the audience, can offer a wonderful experience for us all. At the Early Music Days in Vác, participants will have the opportunity to experience the rich colors and nuances a singer can explore when performing with various fortepianos from different eras — similar to those used by composers from Haydn to Brahms. It is an experience I wholeheartedly recommend!
Under the guidance of Elisabeth Scholl, during the course you can deepen your knowledge in the following areas:
Singing is about text. The composers from any stylistical period chose their melodies and accompaniments based on the text. So, as singers we should be able to understand the words, the subtexts and the colours that are text-immanent in order to reveal the full beauty of the pieces we sing. And we should know how to communicate these to the audience. My course in Vác will therefore focus on that: phrasing, diction and understanding the (sub-) texts – of course in connection with the music! Whether You bring a Baroque aria or a German Lied: Let’s explore! And the possibility to use period instruments for accompaniment is really unique!
The applicants of the singing masterclass will receive the repertoire list related to the course after submitting their application.
