What makes the 2026–2027 season of Filharmonia Hungary’s Unikum subscription so unique? Let’s take a look! The concert series begins as early as September with an evening dedicated to Rachmaninov. And what makes it special? The soloist of the composer’s much-debated Piano Concerto in D minor will be one of today’s most acclaimed interpreters of Rachmaninov, Olga Kern. The orchestral arrangement of the famous Vocalise and the Symphony No. 2, performed by the Danubia Orchestra under the baton of János Kovács - who has an exceptional affinity for Russian music - will surely reveal everything audiences love about this deeply expressive composer.
In January, the star guest is Bach - but on this evening, works will be performed together that are only rarely programmed side by side, as they are tied to different periods of the liturgical year. You can experience an entire year in a single evening with Bach.
On Palm Sunday, a special Passion performance is promised: the Hungarian premiere of the Brockes Passion by Bach’s contemporary, Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel. We may already know the Brockes text from settings by Telemann and Handel, but Stölzel’s work is considered a true delicacy.
In May, the Unikum subscription traditionally concludes with the vibrant celebration of the Night of Organs, and on this occasion, the organ of the Liszt Academy will meet folk instruments as well.
A season full of extraordinary experiences - don’t miss it!
