If we were to ask what the greatest event in the history of Italian musical life was, the answer would undoubtedly be the birth of opera. From that moment on, opera became the foremost genre for Italian composers, and for centuries Italian opera remained unrivalled by musical theatre traditions in other languages. It also gave rise to bel canto — literally, “beautiful singing” — which to this day remains a benchmark for classical singers in both vocal technique and the ideal of sound. It is no coincidence that we still associate the human voice so closely with Italian music, and that, much like Italian cuisine, Italian music is beloved almost everywhere in the world. Tonight’s programme is devoted entirely to Italian music, featuring works by the great masters of Italian Romanticism, performed by Kossuth Prize-winning soprano Klára Kolonits and her younger colleague, Szilveszter Szélpál. Expect no shortage of memorable melodies, powerful emotions and unforgettable performances. The grand operatic sound will be provided by Hungary’s largest orchestra, the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Dániel Dinyés. We invite you to more than just an evening of music: let the concert be a time to immerse yourself in the experience, while its unforgettable melodies are sure to brighten your days for many days to come!
