Augustin Szokos was born in 1992 in Békéscsaba, Hungary. He studied composition at the Béla Bartók Conservatory then got degrees in harpsichord performance and orchestral conducting at the Liszt Academy of Budapest. In 2009 he founded his first ensemble, the Budapest Bach Consort. Since 2013, he has been playing in the Orfeo Orchestra, as a member of which he has performed on several internationally acclaimed recordings. Since 2015, in collaboration with the Orfeo Music Foundation and the Hungarian Academy of Arts, he has been producing modern editions and performance material from manuscript sources, resulting in several first recordings and world premieres. In 2017, he founded an orchestral academy with the Budapest Bach Consort, which offers young musicians playing on period string instruments the opportunity to participate in a 3-day orchestral workshop and a concert, under the direction of Kati Debretzeni, leader of the English Baroque Soloists. In addition to performing, Szokos is also active as a researcher, focusing on the musical life of 18th-century London and the aspects of harpsichord making in the British Isles.
