István Pál Szalonna and his band roam around the Carpathian Basin in search of folk music treasures. These treasures were collected and explored by Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók, and inspired operas like The Spinning Room, The Tale of János Háry and Bartók's Romanian folk dances.

István Pál, violinist, vocalist and leader of the orchestra, was awarded the Liszt Ferenc Prize in 2015 and the Hungarian Artist of Merit Award in 2019.
