György Gyivicsán

He began his musical studies on tenor horn in 1985 and switched to trombone in 1989. He continued his secondary studies at the Szeged Conservatory of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music and later studied at the Faculty of Music of the University of Szeged between 1996 and 2001. He subsequently pursued further studies in Freiburg as a scholarship holder of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and also studied in Bern. He earned his Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) degree from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2013.

He is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, receiving third prize at the International Trombone Competition in Guebwiller (1999), Porcia (2000), and Toulon (2001), and first prize at the International Trombone Competition in Porcia in 2003.

From 2002 to 2004, he was a trombonist with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. Since 2004, he has been a member of the Slokar Trombone Quartet, and since 2013, a member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2005, he graduated from the University of Bern and, in the same year, was appointed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Music of the University of Szeged. Since 2019, he has served as Professor of Trombone at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.

As a soloist and as a member of the Szeged Trombone Ensemble, which he founded, he regularly performs in Hungary and abroad.
