Application call for composers

Filharmonia Hungary organises a number of events to promote the "queen of instruments", the organ. One of the highlights is the Night of the Organ programs, which starts every year with the opening event of the OrganPoint series, including almost 100 concerts throughout the country.

This year we have launched a competition for composers of organ music. The aim of the call was to obtain a contemporary piece for solo organ worthy of the Nights of the Organ program that will performed at all the events of the series.

The competition has closed and the winners have been announced by the professional jury.

1st prize winner: Bálint Karosi

2nd prize winner: Szilárd Ferenc Kovács

3rd prize winner: Zsolt Máté Mászáros

Jury members:

Ádám Balázs (HU) – internationally acclaimed film composer, professor of digital orchestration at the Liszt Academy of Music, Department of Composition

Cameron Carpenter (USA) – received the first organist Grammy Award nomination organist, organ virtuoso, composer and organ designer

Hannfried Lucke (AT) – organist, organ professor of the Salzburg Mozarteum University

János Pálúr (HU) – organist, professor of organ and improvisation at the Liszt Academy

Szabolcs Szamosi (HU) – music director and organist of the Cathedral of Szeged
