Sergei Akimov, born in 1989 in Moscow (Russia), had his first conducting lessons at the age of 13. In 2011, he became a student of Moscow P.I.Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where the head of department is famous Maestro Gennadiy Rozhdestvensky. Throughout studies Sergei managed to gather his own chamber orchestra “Affrettando” with which he had his own series of concerts in such halls as Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Glinka’s Museum and others. He was the first one to perform in Russia chamber arrangement of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” and “Petroushka”, Gershwin’s opera “Blue Monday”, Weill’s Violin Concerto, chamber arrangement of Khachaturyan’s ballet “Cippolino” and a lot of other music including the contemporary one by Russian composers. “Petroushka” and “Cippolino” arrangements was done by Sergey himself as well as all arrangements in the repertoire of the “Rockestralive” orchestra where Sergey is a music director and chief conductor.

Among other Akimov’s interests are musical instruments. He plays various instruments from amateur to professional levels. Among them bassoon, trumpet, clarinet, contrabass, piano, folk- instruments, flute, english horn. He played bassoon/contrabassoon in orchestra conducted by V. Jurowsky, played trumpet in orchestra conducted by A. Rakitina, played piano and celesta in orchestra conducted by V. Gergiev.

Currently he writes PhD work about operas by American composer John Coolidge Adams.

Nowadays Sergei works in Moscow Operetta Theatre where he conducts “Die Fledermaus” by J. Strauss, “Ball im Savoy” by P. Abraham and musicals “Jane Eyre”, “Matrimonio all'italiana” and “Anna Karenina”.
