Harpsichord masterclass
Andrea Buccarella

The Stylus Phantasticus from Frescobaldi to Bach

This masterclass is open to all harpsichordists, pianists, fortepianists, and organists interested in deepening their study of the harpsichord and its repertoire.
The lessons are individual, but all participants are strongly encouraged to attend the lessons of their fellow students, maximizing the benefits of the course through shared learning and discussion. The central theme of the masterclass is the Stylus Phantasticus from Frescobaldi to Bach. Every aspect of this style and its evolution will be explored in depth. However, participants are also welcome to bring other repertoire for their lessons if desired. The interpretation of harpsichord music has undergone significant development in recent years. A growing awareness of the unique characteristics of plucked-string instruments and increasingly detailed research into historical treatises and repertoire have led performers to explore phrasing solutions that allow for greater expressive freedom.

During this masterclass, we will investigate the various approaches to interpreting works from different historical periods, taking into account both historical performance practices and the sonic possibilities of different instruments available.
