Katalin Szutrély

Katalin Szutrély graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music, majoring in Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy, and later earned her DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts) degree at the same institution. Between 2002 and 2007 she taught at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy in Kecskemét. Alongside her theoretical studies and professional work, singing remained a constant focus for her: she studied with Valéria Berdál in Szeged, Vera Rózsa in London, and Éva Lax in Budapest.

As a singer, she is primarily active in the fields of art song and oratorio. Her repertoire includes works by Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi, Bach, Michael and Joseph Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, and Fauré. She performs regularly as a soloist at Hungary’s major concert venues (including Müpa Budapest – Béla Bartók National Concert Hall; the Liszt Academy – Grand Hall and Solti Hall; Kodály Centre in Pécs). In October 2019 she made her debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Her most important musical partners include György Vashegyi, the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra, and she also frequently appears in the oratorio productions of Concerto Budapest and the Saint Stephen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Her notable opera roles include:

  • Purcell: Dido and Aeneas – Dido (2019, Liszt Academy, concert performance)

  • Handel: Hercules – Iole (2012, Müpa, semi-staged)

  • Leclair: Scylla et Glaucus – Circé (2013, Müpa, concert performance)
