A gala concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Filharmónia Hungary as the country's largest classical music concert organiser. For more than 70 years, the Filharmónia has been playing a key role in the classical music scene in Hungary, and in the last ten years we have once again become a national company, with a series of excellent programmes. During this time, we have supported talented young musicians with scholarships and music competitions, our concerts have featured the world's biggest stars, and we have brought music close to all ages through innovative new programmes.
Among the performers at the gala concert, we welcome ensembles and artists who are essential and regular participants in the Filharmonia's concerts: the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of György Vashegyi is a key strategic partner, but the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the Cantemus Children's Choir of Nyíregyháza is also an example of this broad and fruitful cooperation.
The evening's programme also includes a number of special features, including rarely performed works such as Francis Poulenc's concerto for two pianos and an excerpt from Hidas's organ concerto, rounded off by melodies by Bartók, Kodály and Erkel. Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 70 in D major, first performed at the laying of the foundation-stone of the new opera house of the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd, is a fitting crowning glory.
