Xianmei Fang, Silvio Celeghin and the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra
A feast of the finest organ music – this year Night of the Organs brings the Filharmónia Magyarország Unikum subscription series to a close with a true musical banquet. The organ of the Liszt Academy of Music will reveal its symphonic power and versatility through three organ concertos of distinct character and atmosphere.
The evening opens with a concerto by Frigyes Hidas, who described himself as the last Hungarian Romantic composer, firmly believing that rhythm, harmony, and melody should remain the guiding forces of musical creation. His organ concerto had quite an adventurous journey before it was eventually introduced to the public by Xavér Varnus. The other Hungarian composer of the evening is Rezső Ott, whose youthful, humorous, and approachable musical voice is becoming increasingly well known. His organ concerto is a true novelty, making the concert appealing not only to lovers of romantic melodies but also to those who enjoy humor and surprises in music.
The third work on the program is Joseph Jongen’s monumental Symphonie Concertante, one of the most large-scale and symphonic masterpieces in the organ repertoire. With its dramatic arc, radiant colors, and virtuosic passages, the piece is a true test for the performers—and an electrifying experience for the audience.
The soloists of the evening are the young organ talent Xianmei Fang and the internationally acclaimed Silvio Celeghin, performing with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Before the concert, the audience is warmly invited to attend a free pre-concert prologue starting at 6:30 PM.
