Night of the Organs 2026 – when the “king of instruments” fills the world with sound
On May 23, 2026, the “king of instruments” comes to life once again: the Night of the Organs returns, transforming not only churches and concert halls, but entire cities—and even continents—into a celebration of music

Since its launch in 2019, the mission of the festival has remained unchanged: to introduce the unique sound world of the organ to as wide an audience as possible. Over the years, however, the event has grown far beyond its original scope—today it is an international celebration, bringing together institutions, artists, and music lovers from around the globe.

This year’s edition promises to be richer than ever: more than 100 venues, dozens of organists, thousands of keys, tens of thousands of pipes, and hundreds of thousands of sounds will come together in a single evening. The goal is simple yet ambitious: to create an unforgettable shared musical experience for an ever-growing audience.

What makes the Night of the Organs truly special is that the instrument is not confined to its traditional settings. Alongside churches and concert halls, organ music will also be heard in public spaces, on mobile stages such as the Theater Wagen, and even in nature. Audiences can enjoy a concert on Lake Balaton or listen to the sounds of the famous Sea Organ in Zadar joining the celebration.

Among the highlights in Budapest is the “Competition of Organ Concertos” at the Liszt Academy, featuring two outstanding artists, Xianmei Fang and Silvio Celeghin, performing with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Dárius Teremi. Another exceptional event will take place at St. Stephen’s Basilica, where internationally acclaimed organist Francesco Finotti will present a candlelit concert, combining monumental sound with an intimate atmosphere.

A central theme of this year’s festival is candlelight, adding a new dimension to the listening experience. Across the world, there is a growing appreciation for hearing early and classical music not under stage lights, but in a more intimate, contemplative setting—something that historic church interiors enhance beautifully.

In cities across Hungary, audiences can enjoy unique musical pairings: organ with trumpet in Székesfehérvár, organ with violin in Miskolc and Győr, or a spectacular outdoor film music concert on organ in Pécs. In Debrecen, a special program brings together three tenors and organ for a powerful vocal-instrumental experience.

The Night of the Organs is more than a concert series. It also offers a wide range of free and unconventional programs: organ factory visits, all-night concerts, and community events. In Pécs, for example, a charity family run combines music with inclusive sports, creating a meaningful and uplifting experience for participants of all ages.

One of the festival’s defining features is its open format: beyond the invited artists, churches, institutions, and musicians are encouraged to join with their own events. This openness is what makes the Night of the Organs truly unique—a constantly evolving celebration shaped by its participants.

The Night of the Organs is not just about concerts. It is a shared musical experience—a single evening when the same instrument resonates across the world, telling a different story in every place.
