Who could interpret the works of Mendelssohn and Schumann more authentically than a world-renowned sibling duo – violinist Carolin Widmann and her brother, clarinetist-composer-conductor Jörg Widmann? Each artist has toured the globe individually, performing with leading orchestras, teaching at prestigious universities, and receiving international acclaim for their versatility. This is especially true of Jörg, whose career seamlessly blends virtuosic clarinet performance, composition, and conducting. On this evening, he will showcase all aspects of his artistry to the audience in Debrecen.
But what will they play? The program opens with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, a work that so vividly captures the atmosphere of a stormy sea island that even Wagner - no great admirer of Mendelssohn - praised it. The overture is followed by Jörg Widmann’s Violin Concerto No. 2, conducted by the composer himself, with his sister Carolin as soloist. After Carolin’s performance, we’ll hear Jörg as a soloist, performing his own Clarinet Fantasy. The evening concludes with Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, the “Spring” Symphony - a true breath of fresh air on a winter night and a tribute to the springtime of the composer’s life.
Professionalism, emotion, star power, and unique experiences… This is not a concert to miss!
