Rezső Ott’s Christmas Selection

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without carols! Perhaps no other holiday is associated with so many beloved, almost iconic songs as Christmas. At this time of year, you can even hear traditional church hymns playing in shopping malls. Which one is your favourite? Hark! The Herald Angels Sing? Silent Night? While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night? Joy to the World? Or Jingle Bells? There’s a good chance you’ll hear all of these at this concert. But not in a shopping mall – in a church! Voices and organ music: perhaps these, too, are an essential part of the festive season, along with dressing up, setting out on a special outing, sharing experiences with others, meeting loved ones and finding a moment of peace and quiet. This concert offers the perfect opportunity to embrace all of these traditions. Alongside Ott Rezső’s highly successful Christmas song cycles, the programme features a Christmas organ work by the young organist Sándor Balatoni, as well as Christmas organ music by Gábor Lisznyay Szabó, one of the great organists of the twentieth century. And that’s not all! Are you among those who associate Christmas not only with sacred music, but also with The Nutcracker or Home Alone? You won’t be disappointed – these festive favourites will be part of the concert, too! But have you ever heard these familiar melodies played on the organ? Now’s your chance! Join us for an intimate yet festive evening filled with your favourite Christmas tunes. Revisit your most cherished Christmas memories, and let your imagination wander as you picture your very own perfect Christmas!
