Viennese Composers with a Viennese Soloist
The Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra brings to Keszthely the masterpieces of Mozart and Schubert, joined by world-renowned pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja, a true classical legend who has made Vienna her home for decades. The concert will be conducted by the orchestra’s artistic director, István Várdai, one of the most acclaimed cellists in the world.
These names alone guarantee an unforgettable musical experience – but let’s take a closer look at the program!
Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue in C minor is among his most emotional works, remarkable for its unusually dark and stormy mood. The archaic form further enhances the piece’s gravity and grandeur. His Piano Concerto in A major, K. 488 is one of his most celebrated concertos, where Mozart excels in the contrast of characters: the outer fast movements are carefree and joyful, while the slow movement expresses profound sorrow and melancholy — yet, through Mozart’s touch, this emotion becomes deeply moving and uplifting.
Schubert’s chamber music shaped the entire 19th century. Though he did not invent the string quintet – Luigi Boccherini wrote over a hundred of them – Schubert’s only quintet transformed the genre completely. It is such a monumental work that it practically demands orchestral treatment.
At this concert, it will indeed be performed in an orchestral arrangement.
Spend a wonderful evening surrounded by great artists and timeless masterpieces!
