Béla Hamvas states in his essay that "to be Hungarian means to create balance within the world of the five geniuses." He explains that the Carpathian Basin is shaped by the spirit of five “geniuses”: the influence of the West's cultivation, the fire of the East, the seriousness of the North, and the South's cheerfulness. Additionally, Transylvania, as the fifth genius, is highly multifaceted. This distinctive condition presents Hungarians with both opportunities and challenges, requiring them to harmonize the forces that surround and nourish their spirit at both social and individual levels.
This idea inspired composer Zsolt Keresztury-Albert to compose a staged musical piece featuring tárogató, voice, symphony orchestra, and choir, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács.
The audience is invited on a ritual journey of self-discovery, where prose, classical music, folk songs, and the singing voice of the tárogató intertwine to reveal the world of the five geniuses and, in spirit, guide listeners through the enchanting landscapes of Hungary’s historical regions—from the southern territories to Transylvania.
