Innovation, virtuosity, and timeless classics – with this exciting combination, Filharmonia Hungary launches its 2025/2026 concert season in Kecskemét on the occasion of the International Day of Music. The program will feature the world premiere of a percussion concerto by Dávid Magda, performed for the very first time by the concert audience. This piece is exceptional not only because percussion instruments rarely take center stage as soloists, but also because it was composed specifically for the Kecskemét Symphony Orchestra.
Zoltán Kovács is not only a composer but also a bassoonist. He has written several concertos for his own instrument, and the quality and character of his music are reflected in the fact that fellow musicians frequently commission new works from him for their respective instruments. On this occasion, György Lakatos, principal bassoonist of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Kovács’s Second Bassoon Concerto.
In the second half of the evening, the audience will enjoy one of Dvořák’s most beloved masterpieces, the New World Symphony - a work whose melodies are familiar even to those less acquainted with the symphonic repertoire. And for good reason: Dvořák’s music was a major inspiration for the soundtrack of Star Wars.
Dávid Magda: Concerto for percussions (premiere)
Zoltán Kovács: Basson concerto No. 2
Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 \'From the New World\'
